Of 329 people who answered the survey, 122 said they’d been harassed, 44 said they’d been assaulted — which includes unwanted touching — and 30 said they’d been threatened with assault. Several routes used commonly by Western University and Fanshawe College students had the most incidents.

VIA already had developed a texting service that lets riders text to a number to find out when a bus will arrive.

The app elaborates on that service, said Jeffrey Arndt, interim VIA president and CEO.

After receiving complaints about incidents on buses, in January SACL posted a survey on social media that asked if people had experienced sexual harassment, sexual assaults or threats of sexual assault while riding the buses.

The survey also asked people to identify on which routes the incidents occurred.

Trudell and London Transit Commission general manager Kelly Paleczny met Monday to discuss the survey and the commission’s plans, already in place, to improve safety on buses.
